May 17: Spring Program

May 17 is KIP’s fabulous annual spring program. If you’ve been to one before, you know how awesome this night is. If you are new to KIP, be sure to mark your calendars: You don’t want to miss this!

All children will perform on the big stage starting at 6:30 p.m. Parents, grandparents, relatives and friends are all encouraged to come out and watch their KIP star shine.

May 4: School out for Oaks Day

School will be out on Friday, May 4, for Kentucky Oaks Day. We hope everyone has a great Derby weekend whether they are watching the races at home or at Churchill Downs. We’d like to offer a special congratulations to KIP grandparents Harvey and Sandy Diamond for being part owners of their second Kentucky Derby entrant in as many years. Go Hansen!

May 3: KIP Derby Parade

KIP’s annual Derby Parade will take place on Thursday, May 3, at 9:00 a.m. Students should be with their teachers by 8:45 a.m. to get ready for the parade, and parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to line the front driveway at Keneseth Israel to watch the show. This event is part of a week of Derby-related crafts and activities we have planned for the children and is always a fun morning out.

April 28: Pajama Party!

KIP’s Pajama Party, originally scheduled for the night of the UK vs. U of L Final Four Game, has been rescheduled for Friday, April 28. Parents can drop off their children ages 2-6 from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. If you have already signed your child up, just verify with Shary or Andi that you will be there for the new time. And if you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still time and available slots to do so. Check in with the office for prices and availability.

Registration Update

Registration for the 2012-2013 year continues. We are now in the process of planning classrooms and staff for the next school year. In order to ensure a spot for all currently enrolled students, we need your registration forms by April 17.

We are adding a 12-month class for next year. This one-time class has an enrollment limit of 8, and we currently have one spot remaining. If you need a great place for your walking one-year-old, hurry and reserve your spot.

We are expanding our 3-year-old program from 2 classrooms to 3. Next year, our 3s head teachers will be Tina, Tammy, and Julie. The lead 2s teachers will be Melinda and Danielle. The lead 4s will remain Andrea and Liz.

Final staff assignments will be made in May. Be advised that we are filling up fast. As of today, there are only a limited number of spots in most age groups. Bring in those forms! And remember, if you refer a new student to KIP, you will receive $100 off the next month’s tuition.

Spring Break: April 9-13

Spring break begins next Monday, April 9. This year, the break coincides with Passover, meaning KIP will not have any additional holiday closings this spring.

Please note that we have had several cases of the stomach bug and other illnesses in our building this week. If your child goes home with a fever or due to vomiting, he or she cannot return to school the next day. All children should be symptom free for 24-hours before coming back to school. This policy is designed to help your children recover and to keep the spread of illness to a minimum.

This week especially, we need your cooperation to get everyone healthy for Passover, Easter, and Spring Break. Thanks so much, and we hope your family has a great week off.

Passover Seder: April 6

On Friday, April 6, KIP will host a Passover Seder for the children. All students who normally leave at 12:00 are invited to stay for this special event. Noon and 1:00 carpoolers should be picked up at 12:45.

Calendar Updates

Attention KIP Parents: We’ve made a few changes/updates to the spring 2012 Calendar. Spring break remains the same, but a teacher in-service day has been changed, a field-trip added, and a class party day moved. Be sure to visit the KIP calendar to keep track of all the events we have planned for the next few months.

Spring Fundraiser Update: Raffle Tickets

KIP’s annual spring fundraiser is coming up next month. We’ll launch the event soon by sending home KIP raffle tickets. This year, we have three prizes for the lucky winners:

Grand Prize: An iPad 2
Second Prize: A Kindle Fire
Third Prize: $100

This year’s raffle tickets will sell for $10 each, and we’ll be asking each family to sell 10 tickets. Monies raised in this year’s fundraiser are being designated for supplemental teacher training and a new fence for our playground.

Winter Weather Closing Policy

It’s that time of year again when snow, ice, and freezing rain can wreak havoc with the school schedule. Announcements regarding school cancellations and delayed starts will be made on WAVE and WHAS radio and television. As a general policy, the school will follow the same decision regarding closings as Jefferson County Public Schools.

When JCPS is delayed, we will open at 8:15 a.m. When JCPS is closed, KIP is closed.

A decision regarding school closings is usually made the night before, but sometimes as late as 5:00 a.m. If you are unsure, call the KI phone line, where we will have a recording as soon as any decision is made. This website will be updated as often as possible, but an early morning decision may not be posted until 7:00 a.m. the next day.
